THE CAPTAIN'S REPORT - Round 12b

BNCC v Reds
Saturday, February 27

At Herring- 45 over one dayer
Captain: Toddy

We needed outright so the captain (that's me and I was awesome) had the plans written down over a few mid week beers in his pocket.
looking at this great team up against the Reds, this could happen.

We win the toss and select to bowl, open up with Hatcher and Pav. Surely this would get us a few wickets and I was right 2nd over in kirsch takes a ripper in one hand 3 inches of the ground yet somehow still in his belly, hate to say it but it was one of the best I have seen and actually at the time had to ask him if he dropped it as I couldn't believe it ..REDS 1 for not much then Hatcher bowls a couple more and Pav gets one and Reds are 4 for not much off 18.

The problem lies in that a bloke called Alec Kahn plays for the reds and is the most boring batsman that has graced Mercantile and for years they have been asking someone to light a fire under him to get him going, so you never know. Well it seems he has been teaching the young Reds how to bat as they were not getting runs but we weren't getting wickets fast enough. Proof in that Horman was next to bowl and took 3 for 8 off nine overs with Hyndman and Todman bowling from the other end in an attempt to make them play some shots, yet this was to no avail, Hyndo took 1 wicket for not many runs as for some reason they didn't try to belt him.
Reds 8 for 80 off 36 overs.

Bring on Hags from the Pavilion end and as I am captain I change over to the other end after Horman and before Patterson. Hags bowls well and then with all of those little Sausage fingers stretched out as far as they could go Hyndo takes an absolute beauty to give Hags a wicket then the following over Hags takes a beauty of my bowling and Reds are sent on there way.

Reds all out for 90 odd yet off 39 overs which is slightly annoying.

I bring my crumpled cigarette stained paper out of my pocket with the supposedly ingenious batting line up on it.
Simple - Patterson and Hyndman to open thinking that Patto hasn't has much of an opportunity with the bat and Hyndo is good to stay around for a bit and hopefully score a few whilst there.
This happens Barnies 1 for 50 with Hydno out for 18 and Patto scoring freely

Now this is where my captaincy comes into question as I thought the next 3 batsman were ones who can score freely and at will and will get us to 200 by the 22 over mark leaving 29 overs at them to gain outright....surely this will happen
Deano - 1
Krischy - 0 yet did have a 26 run partnership with Patterson
Rorison - 0 only relief is that he did it on the first ball as to not to keep us in suspense.

I put myself in and we get to drinks at 4 for 154 with Patterson on 97.
Now I should have declared and everyone was telling me to, yet we did need a few more runs and Patto deserved it so I gave him one over. Kiss the cap...PATTO GETS HIS TON and Todman gets out on the last ball

Barnies 5 for 166, 70 runs infront of reds total .. get back in there Reds.

Open with Hatcher and Pav this time it's Pav's turn and gets 2 quick wickets. Then Rob Huxley puts one down, well actually it came at him slowly and hit him in the chest but Red's Captain makes 50 so outright is over, in comes Kirch and takes the Captain's wicket and then Rob gets a belated wicket for the reds to be 5 for 100 odd at stumps

Good effort all round 15 wickets and a Ton to Patterson is not bad in a 90 over game, but it does leave us with a tough ask on the weekend, according to Marty's maths we need to basically get 20 wickets at a cost of around 190 runs and then make about 250 ourself for the cost of 4-5 wickets, which is possible against this opposition, so get down there for a few drinks early and do this.

Some interesting Stats.

Most Ducks for the Barnies since stats have been kept.
D Huxley 13
T Vana 12
Todman 12
M Vana 11

And those not quite good enought to get double digits Gav on 8 after a stellar season of 4 and Pooch, Wrighty, Brown, Kirsch and Bowden on 7

Also in the Player Championship which takes runs, wickets, catches and run-outs into consideration
Bowden is on 28.6
Hyndman is on 28.4
With Runs worth .1, wickets worth 2 and catches worth 1

See you SAT..Todders
