Third annual Samoa 7s. Elsternwick Park, Sunday. February 28, 2010

OCL Dennis Huxley is tasked with selecting the first team to take the pitch.
In classic Huxley fashion, we see him here stacking the deck so that all Huxleys get to play.

Shearney - The "Golden Boy" from last year's day warmed up the best way possible - a glass or three of god's golden ale

George with the shirt of the day.
It reads:
"MY GIRLFRIEND CANT WRESTLE BUT YOU SHOULD SEE HER BOX"

Keep in mind his wife is about to go into labour at any time, and the umpire has his phone just in case the call comes in mid innings.

Toddy showing a little Samoa 7's spirit, and a little hairy leg for those looking to vomit up their breakfast.

With a plethora of Barnies showing up for the first game, the draw commences.

Barry Huxley is safe with the 3 of diamonds

Mikey Egan draws wisely

Everyone is trying to avoid the death card, the 10 of spades.
Draw that, and you miss the first game.

Josh Williams is safe

Another one drawn, still no 10 of spades.
Surely our star player Gorgeous George won't draw it?

With two cards left, the 10 of spades is still in the deck.
George draws....

Sure enough, Dennis Huxley stacks the deck and George draws the 10 of spades. In true OCL fashion, he gives his spot to George and we have the greatest opening partnership in club history taking the crease of the first game. Gorgeous and Shearney. For those that don't know, in last year's Samoa 7's, Shearney made 3 golden ducks in a row. A feat that will surely never ever be equalled.

BNCC bowled first and managed to hold the opposition to a meagre 73.
The legend himself pads up and gets ready to go in to re-write the BNCC history books. Can he go out for his fourth golden in a row and keep the dream alive?
Just in case he does, we send him in with George in what can only be described as "plan b" should Shearney fail to hit the 74 needed to get us across the line.

Of course George gives him the strike. :)

In picture perfect batting, Shearney blocks a waist high delivery away ending another chapter in BNCC history.
Dot ball, no runs, but no golden either.

Next ball, Shearney shows us all how to play of the legs with a swift stroke of his bat, he is off the mark! Great effort Shearney.

Meanwhile Toddy stands at square leg waiting for a wicket and his turn to bat - he waited, he waited, he waited - He just kept waiting.

The clubs finest line up awaiting their chance at the crease
Like Toddy - they waited all six overs

After Shearney compiles his historic innings, it was that time, just like in the classic movie Pulp Fiction, BNCC decided to "Bring out the Gimp!" George is on strike and has his sights set on the oppositions total.

First 6 almost lands in Adelaide.

Another 6, this time over the bowlers head and into the car park.

You know what happens next. And no, George doesn't get stumped. :) Another 6. George showing everyone why you should never write off BNCC making a grand total of 0/110 off six overs giving the Barnies their first win of the day.
Great effort Shearney and well helped George (76no)

2nd match of the day BNCC go in to bowl against the the Village Idols (or was that Village Idiots)

The Barnies made it two from two against the Village Idiots before "tanking" in the third round against the Wombats

Two wins and a heck of a percentage was enough to earn the Barnies a spot in the semi-finals against the White Maggots and after a great all-round team performance it was left to Shearney to bowl the last over with the Maggots needing 18 to win.

Six runs from a legside wide first ball and then another 6 runs for a wide midway through the over but they still needed two from the last ball.

With only five fieldsmen not including the bowler and the keeper the vacant gaps in the field were bigger the the hollow space between you know who's ears.

Shearney floats one down leg side and the batsman smites it to the boundary for four and the Barnie charge for glory ended.

No victory but some good drinking and a shit load of cash raised for Evo's Samoa cricket - a good day had by all.
