SENSATIONAL/TRAGIC/ODD
EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF BARNAWARTHA NORTH
Shane "Slim" Gurnett
in the xxxt season came in at 5/31 chasing 140, and smashed 191
in 80 minutes off 88 balls. His innings included 23 sixes and 10
fours, and an adjacent District thirds game stopped while he rained
sixes onto their ground.

Against Reds on February 11,
2007 - Warwick Brown dropped a dolly in ninth slip off the first
ball.

Martin Vana once took a catch
in the traditional Barnie nine slip opening while still clutching
a snitzel sandwich.

Against Reclink on January 21,
2007 - Dennis Huxley (23-09-1949) became the oldest Barnie to score
a 50 (59).

Against Reds in October 2007,
Rob Puccioni took a catch at second slip in a nine slip field, first
ball from Scott Hatcher in the second innings of an outright losing
match. Wicket keeper Patto caught the second ball which had a faint
edge but the umpire ruled it not-out when he dropped it as he attempted
to throw it in the air to celebrate. Then on the third ball the
batsman got a thick edge which Patto collected but the umpire seemed
the only person in Melbourne not to see or hear it and paid it not
out again. Three balls later we had lost outright.

Against Sacred Heart in December
2007, Tony Kirsch got a wicket with the first legal ball of the
Sacred Heart innings.
Nothing great about that except that it bounced twice and was almost
going to bounce a third time when it thudded into the pads of Tony
McCallum - a man who has been banned from BNCC for life plus 10
years.

Against Burnley on Saturday,
February 21, 2009 "Gorgeous" George Hope scored an association
record score of 243.
He shared a second wicket partnership record of 336 with Gavin Povolo
who was on 82 when George went out but went on to score 172 of his
own.
The Barnies finished at 6-463 off 40 overs. |
